Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink

Good Afternoon on Friday September 8th,

I hope you are all well as I have had a week away in Paris there was no post last week and on Wednesday I shattered and in the middle of unpacking everything. As it is now Friday I thought I would get back into  things with a review of a lip product which is new into the drugstores, which as you can see from the title are the Superstay Matte Ink lip products from Maybelline which I have in the shades 20/Pioneer and 50/Voyager and retail for £10.

These liquid lips offer a wear time of up to 16 hours, and whilst I have only worn mine Maybelline-Voyager-SuperStay-Matte-Inkfor a maximum of 12 they do stay put and don’t transfer onto cups or partner’s lips once they have dried down and set.  I really like the applicator of this product as the arrow shape with a hole in the center similar to the YSL applicator. This allows for a precise application which doesn’ t end up bleeding or feathering or smearing everywhere during the application and the gorgeous formula gives you a stunning long lasting look.

Maybelline-SuperStay-Matte-Ink-Liquid-LipstickThis liquid lip is unlike anything else I have in my collection at the moment as I would describe it as a stain and liquid lipstick hybrid because it applies very wet and then gets sticky, before finally drying down which takes about 15 minutes to fully dry.  While this may seem a long time I often apply it after powdering and then go back and finish my makeup / hair and by the time that is all done this is set. You can apply this stuff in the morning and it will be intact when you wash your face at night and it doesn’t feel dry / feel like it is sucking the life out of our lips and isn’t or cakey or flake when it wears down.

The only thing that I would say about this product is that it is a nightmare to get off with anything other than an oil, having tried several cleansers I found that my Take The Day Off by Clinique did the best job. however, this does mean that you do need to be quick when fixing any mistakes as it can get quite messy and you could end up ruining the rest of your make-up. I really do like these products and would go and check these out in your local drug store but if you are not a fan of the heavier liquid lips then these are probably not for you.

As always I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know in the comments if you have tried these out and what you think.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

Good afternoon on Friday, August 25th,

I hope you are all well and looking forward to the weekend. Having recently purchased a holiday kit from Estee Lauder containing a variety of their products I thought I would share with you my thoughts on a product that has quickly made it’s way into my night time skin care routine.

P1190758editFor those of you who haven’t tried this yet either through a sample or just visiting the counter this product is a peachy-colored, gel-like serum, and is one of the brand’s bestsellers. This is an anti-aging serum designed to work while you sleep, it acts on lines and wrinkles, dullness and dryness for more youthful and radiant skin. Although I am only 21 I use this product, not for the anti- aging properties but rather because it is lightweight in texture and tackles dryness, dehydration which is great for night time and it isn’t sticky which is one of the main reasons I love this product.  The  oil-free and fragrance-free formula makes it suitable for oily and sensitive skin too.

This is how Estee Lauder recommend that this product is applied and added into yourEstee-Lauder-Advanced-Night-Repair_review-1024x683 night time skin routine :

  • Apply on clean skin before your moisturiser.
  • Use several drops. Smooth in gently all over face and throat.
    Try This Nightly Ritual
    1. Apply a drop on each fingertip of one hand.
    2. Touch fingertips of both hands together.
    3. Massage serum over face and neck, starting at the center, outward.

I love how this serum leaves your skin feeling as well as the fact that it not only delivers a welcome shot of hyaluronic (helps the skin to hang onto its water) and a big dose of antioxidants (helps to repair and protect against day to day damage) as well as helping to break down what’s not needed, which is where the “purify” element comes in.

I would definitely recommend checking this product out for a number of reasons rather than just simply anti-aging although this is a higher end product retailing from £53 for 30ml.

until next time,

MAC personality palette/ Prissy Princess

Good Afternoon on Wednesday August 23rd.

I hope you are all well and are having a good week so far, continuing the theme of make-up I thought I would share my thoughts on my latest palette purchase which, from the title you can see is the limited edition MAC personality palette in the colour way Prissy Princess and features 8 shadows and a highlighter.

mac_prissy-princess_002_palettePrissy Princess – Shell grey (Creamy Matte), Sweet Tart – Shimmery pale pink (Satin Shine), Eternal Optimist – Shimmery cool brown (Satin Shine), Good Girl & U Know It – Greyed neutral brown (Satin Shine), Too Good to Be True – Cool mid-tone brown with silver pearl (Foil), Fabness – Taupe grey (Smooth Pearl), Spoil Yourself – Dark brown (Creamy Matte), Colour Me Spoiled – Very light pink (Creamy Matte) and finally, She’s a Rainbow – Rose pink with silver highlighter (Opalescent)

Looking at the palette it is clear that we have mainly got a bunch of taupes similar to the mac_macgirls_prissyprincess3_zpsenammbrlclassic satin taupe color which is one of my everyday colors. These neutral colors are complemented by cool and neutral browns, pink, a bit of gray and a sliver of silver. At first glance this product looks like it is designed for those of us with cooler skin tones,  but the reality is that there really aren’t that many grey tones within the palette which means that I personally think this palette would suit warmer skin tones too.

INLINE_02-1There is some fall out especially when using the dark brown color  Spoil Yourself, which looks a little like MAC Brun, exhibits more fallout than the other shades. The first time I used it, I was going for a dark chocolate smoky eye, but I went a little crazy dusting it on my lids and ended up with some on my cheekbones and lower lash lines. but this is less of an issue with the other shadows.

Overall  I do like this product and the looks that you can get using this palette or as I often do, combo the colors with another palette especially if I am going for a darker or smokier eye.

I hope you have a good rest of the week,

Emily xx

sit down, relax and put on a face mask

Good afternoon on Friday August 18th,

I hope you are all well and looking forward to the weekend, I know I am with a 21st birthday party and then we are going off to watch Dreamgirls! For this post I thought I would share my favourite face masks which are something that I love to take the time and indulge in at the end of the week especially if I am having a particularly bad skin day.

3.REN Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask: £28 for 50ml. At number 3 this is a greatDSC_0064 mask if you’re prone to easily irritated, over-sensitised skin.  The soothing and comforting mask can  strengthen the protective barrier, re-establish the natural balance of your skin as  well as and combat redness and itchiness. You can use this mask up to three times a week or just whenever your skin needs rescuing. This product contains no parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance or colours, silicones or glycols – all of which can cause reactions for irritable, reactive skin.  The product contains four main ingredients; White Mushroom Extract: Calms and comforts. Yeast Compound: Accelerates recovery after stress with potent antibacterial and antihistamine effects. Arnica: Reduces redness. Roman Chamomile Scent: Offers a warm, sweet, relaxing, and calming feeling for both body and mind.

IMG_8924

I really like the consistency of this mask and how it feels on the skin and unlike other masks does sink into the skin and really feels like it is doing something. I also like that this product comes with a pump as the thing I hate about masks is that they are so messy and often sticky! The other thing is that the chamomile scent is very present and one of the things that I don’t like about it as I prefer a fresh or fruity scent.

2. Kiehl’s Tumeric and Cranberry seed Energizing Radiance Masque £29 for 100ml. With e4c975a73e4ef1119f7dc769dfa477dbthis mask you can energise dull, tired skin before a party or night out with this radiance-revealing facial in a jar. The crushed cranberry seeds act as a mild exfoliant and skin is brightened considerably when dull dead skin cells are removed. It leaves your skin feeling so smooth, make-up glides on like a dream

aHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkYzLmJwLmJsb2dzcG90LmNvbSUyRi12dVQ0eGJIU3NXayUyRldHcF9mcUtOczNJJTJGQUFBQUFBQUJjUXMlMkZKTTJhV2RDQ283UVY1WnRJZmxmODFyMzBReUlTMUhlblFDRXclMkZzNjQwJTJGMTclMkJCZWF1dHklMkJQcmThis mask is VERY messy  and I really don’t like applying the thick product with my fingers but this can be somewhat overlooked due to the instantly brightened, refined, deeply cleansed and exfoliated results.  This Tumeric and Cranberry based mask is as close to a spa quality facial with real, visible results you will ever find or achieve in the comfort of your own home – and has become one of my all time favourite face masks.

1. Tony Moly Master Lab Ceramide Mask Sheet $9

Sheet masks are by far my favourite to use and perhaps they are the most cooling and 2503096mess is very little. One of my favourite brands of these masks is Tony Moly which although they are not available that easily on the high street but are around online and really don’t cost very much. The Tony Moly Master Lab Ceramide Mask Sheet uses the nude seal fabric – a new material made of natural cellulose with silky soft texture and an excellent absorption & adherence function better than cotton – to closely adhere to skin and effectively deliver active ingredients to make it healthy by providing deep moisture and nourishment.

I love this mask because it is uber hydrating–and since my skin can act like a sad, neglected sponge in the winter, absorbing my daily moisturizer so fast it’s like I never even applied it, uber hydrating is exactly what I need it is also great after a flight when your skin is so.dried out.

As always I hope you found this interesting and please tell me in the comments your favorite masks as I really want to try some more out.

Bobbi Brown long- wear cream shadow sticks

Good morning on Wednesday August 16th,

Bobbi-Brown-Long-Wear-Cream-Shadow-Stick-Golden-Pink

I hope you are all having a good week so far as we are almost half way through. Here in the UK it is A level results day tomorrow and like many of you, my brother will firstly gain his results as well as find out whether he got into the university he wants to attend from Septemeber so if this is the same for you GOOD LUCK!

IMG_7580As for today’s blog post, I thought I would review another one of my newest purchases from Bobbi Brown in the form of her long-wear shadow sticks. I have had these for about a week and have the shades golden pink which is a shimmery peachy pink color and violet plum which from the name you can guess is a deep purple color which will be stunning in fall.  These shadow sticks are great as the formula is long lasting and really quick as all you need to do is swipe these over the lid and go little to no blending is needed !!

I love these shadow sticks as they are so easy and you really don’t need to be good aBobbi-Brown-Violet-Plum-shadow-stick-closeup make-up to use them and as they are so compact and fit nicely into your make-up bag without taking up too much valuable space. This means that these will also be nice for travel as I am on vacation, I do not want to mess with a bunch of shadows, or worry about palettes breaking, etc. I do feel that these wear well and I don’t get any creasing and the color lasts a good 8 or more hours and then fades lightly, but evenly so doesn’t end up looking horrible or all smudged under your eyes at the end of the night.

Overall these are a little more expensive than those cream shadows in the drugstore as the retail for £23 each and are perhaps most similar to the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. I do like this products and if you are into easy make-up then these are something you should go and check out!

Until next time,

MAC extreme dimension 3D black Lash Mascara.

Good Morning on Friday August 11th,

Getting back into things I thought I would start with a review of my newest mascara $_58which I received as part of a beauty subscription service.  The lightweight and whipped texture of this product claims to  saturate lashes root to tip, adding volume, extending length and creating curl. This mascara also conditions your lashes for softness and flexibility. The overall effect of this product is one of extreme dimension which doesn’t smudge everywhere or leave you with flakes under your eyes at the end of the day.

DSCF94072I have only used this a couple of times and while I do like the large applicator, the overall look that this product gives for me personally is too wet meaning that all my lashes tend to clump together. Whilst I do like volume I do prefer the fluttery look in terms of lashes especially during the day which means that the look achieved by this mascara is better for a night time look.Overall I think whether you like this product will depend on the type of effect you want your lashes to have and at the same time, there are perhaps other mascaras available on the high street which give you the same look but are cheaper than this one which retails at £19.50.

Have an amazing weekend and please leave in the comments your favorite mascara as I really want to know!

A quick little update

Good Afternoon on Thursday, August 10th.

BLIMEY its been a long time since I have written on here and whilst this seems to always be the beginning of every blog post at the minute but it has been almost a month since I put anything on here and honestly I have missed it. I have missed sitting down and updating you either on what has happened in my life post-graduation as well as the latest products I have been trying out.

So the current situation is that I am still applying and looking for a graduate job with the plan to become a primary school teacher some point in the future but right now I really need a job!. I also really want to get back into blogging and therefore the schedule will be based on uploading two times a week on a Friday, and a Wednesday to begin with as the previous three times just wasn’t fitting in with everything else. I have a couple of posts planned in terms of holiday as well as some products that I really want to share with you both hair as mine seems to be having a melt down as I have just come back from holiday as well as a few skin care pieces.

As always I hope you are having a good week and see you soon!

5 top facial SPFs

Good Morning on Monday,

Oh dear, this was supposed to go up Friday but as usual it didn’t so here we are on Monday morning finally finishing and uploading a blog post….anyway I hope you all had a really good weekend. As I have booked my holiday I thought now would be a good time to tell you about my top face SPFs for summer primarily because as I have started using retinoids and acids more it is really important to protect the new skin being brought through by using SPFs.

When you imagine SPFs they are sticky, greasy and pore blocking as well as having that classic holiday smell and often end up covered in sand or leaking all over your bag. However, with the ever-changing and improving formulas, there is an expanding market of facial SPF products that protect your skin as well as actually being nice to use. When choosing a sunscreen you need to look for both UVA and UVB protection as well as minimum SPF of 30 with textures which meet every sort of need from lightweight fluids to tinted creams for those no make-up days.

But wait a minute, as before you attempt to tackle the mountain of facial sunscreens available, it is probably a good idea to make sure you know what it all means and what you need to look out for. Sun protection factor (SPF) is a measure of how long your sunscreen will protect you from ultraviolet B (UVB) rays that damage skin and cause it to burn. Also on the bottle of your chosen product, you may find UVA, the difference between the two is that UVA rays penetrate deeper into your skin and are responsible for premature aging, such as dark spots and wrinkles.  This means that you want to choose a  broad spectrum sunscreen to gain protection from both types of rays, to make things more complicated some may also claim to protect against free radicals too. These are created from environmental factors like pollution and dust, as well as the sun, and also cause skin to age prematurely.

1.Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50, £36. Doubling up as both a moisturizer and an kiehls-ultra-light-daily-uv-defense-1SPF 50 sunscreen, Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Defense is an industry favorite perfect for those with sensitive skin thanks to its Oil-free, fragrance-free formula.  What I really like about this one is that it doesn’t leave you with this weird white cast that you then have to try and blend in or counteract with foundation which also means that is it a good choice for darker skin tones

2.La Roche-Posay Anthelios AC Anti-Shine Matte Fluid SPF 30, £16. This is my current La-Roche-Posay-Anthelios-Anti-Shine-2favorite from the drugstore and feels far more expensive than it really is. While there are a couple of versions of this product but if you suffer from blemishes, you may find that sun protection leaves your skin feeling greasy and prone to breakouts. La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios AC Anti-Shine Matte Fluid is specifically designed for people with those concerns, offering a featherlight formula with a velvet finish alongside SPF 30 protection but the same formula is available with as 50+ SPF.

3.Zelens Daily Defence Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30, £55. Zelens’s Daily Defence552019_in_pp Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen is more up there in price compared to those available in the drugstore and is no means a necessity but really nice if you are a big fan of  Zelens, it is far better to spend your money on a good serum than anything else. This product is packed with antioxidants as well as offering broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection in a formula that feels nothing like the sunscreens you are used too. The formula of this product means that it is great for layering with other skincare products and sits nicely under foundation.

4. Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream for Face UVB/UVA SPF 30, 75ml, £18.90.  This is a well priced product and good whether you have oilyClarins-Suncare-9-1024x701, dry, combination or normal skin. It has a fairly lightweight consistency which I have found doesn’t clog my pores and at the same time absorbs quickly into the skin. Containing both  UVA andUVB filters, it provides a good level of sun protection too and contains anti-ageing properties to help fight fine lines and wrinkles. There are ingredients such as kiwi fruit which help to keep your skin moisturized. As expected this product works well with other skin care items as well as sitting well under make-up which means that this is a great product for everyday use.

5. Green People Facial Sun Cream, Scent Free SPF 30, 50ml, £16.50.  This organic skincare image_g032expert Green People has created a scent-free facial sun cream that can be applied on its own or under make-up.  The consistency of this lotion isn’t too runny and absorbs into skin quickly, leaving no tell-tale white marks or greasy shine. It protects against UVA and UVB rays and contains ingredients such as avocado and green tea to help combat anti-ageing and keep your skin looking firm. It’s a good choice for those with sensitive skin as it doesn’t cause irritation.

As always I hope that you found this interesting and somewhat useful especially when choosing a new SPF and getting ready to jet off on holiday. Hopefully, the schedule will be back to usual this week with a post on Wednesday.

Until next time,

7 things about life after graduation.

Good Morning on Friday, June 30th.

I wanted to do something a little different for this post as the last couple have been product reviews so I wanted to write one on the things that people don’t tell you about life after graduation.

1. A world without semesters. All your life, you’ve been accustomed to regular turnover. Nothing lasts more than a few months — so even if you hate your psych professor, you move on after four months and it’s no sweat and I mean I’ve been in full-time education for near enough 17 years. But this doesn’t happen when you have a job and live in something that’s not a dorm. You can’t just move or quit every few months to freshen things up, it’s time to make some decisions about what you want do for a career and get ready to enter the adult world of work.

2. How Much?! You thought you knew what all the expenses would be, but I swear, there were some our parents just kept from us and you’ll feel a little betrayed by how much it costs just to be alive every day. Like who knew phone bills and actual adult groceries (produce, not frozen pizzas) were so expensive?

3. Bedtime…what bedtime? It is literally not possible to exist on the student sleep patterns of 4 hours or pulling multiple all-nighters.  You can try, but you’ll literally feel like you’re dying all day long if you don’t get a healthy seven to eight hours every night. No more all-nighters, which is a huge relief.

4. Doesn’t time fly?. I thought the weeks leading up to graduation and deadlines went quickly but after that final exam when you get that sense of freedom time seems to speed up even more. When time is measured by the two-week period between paychecks instead of the four month period of a semester, it goes by wayyyy faster, and you all of a sudden get what your parents meant when they said, “Time’s going by way too fast.”

5. Maybe that last glass of wine wasn’t the best idea after all. After graduation not only do hangovers become exponentially worse but showing up to work hungover is no longer as charming as it used to be (and let’s be honest, was it ever really charming?) Sure, you used to be able to roll out of bed, go to a class or two, and head home to sleep it off, but working a 9-to-5 with a hangover is a whole different story. You may also find yourself relishing the nights you spend sober and by yourself, rather than wanting to go out every night (congratulations, you’re an adult!).

6. Savings. Emergencies happen all the time, and the last thing you want is to have to move back home just because your bathtub overflowed and flooded your apartment, and the repairs bankrupted you. I always try to transfer £100 at the end of each month which I can then draw on for rent or car maintenance if it is still a while until my next pay day.

7. Completely and utterly lost.  This is probably the stage I am at now where university is done and now its time to find a proper job to make some money whilst trying to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life. But what nobody tells you about life after college is that everybody is just making it up as they go along.  You’re not the only one endlessly sending resumes and subsisting on fast food and ramen. The great news? It only gets better from here.

As always I hope you have found this somewhat interesting  and that you all have a good weekend whether you are working, treating yourself to a lie in or binge watching the latest series on Netflix.

Until next time,

Emily xx

Jeffree Star cosmetics- Liquid Lipsticks

Good morning on Wednesday, June 28th. I hope you are all having a good week so JeffreeStarCosmetics-VelourLiquidLipsticks-REVIEW-SWATCHES-34171far and if not well we are half way through the working week now so not that long until the weekend- I’m off to see Rick Astley! Right now I am in the middle of sorting out the rest of the things I have brought home from uni as well as attempting to organize and book a holiday, find a job and get ready for graduation in terms of finding the perfect dress/ shoes etc.  So I thought why not squeeze in a blog post both updating and sharing with you my thoughts on the Liquid Lipsticks from Jeffree Star Cosmetics which have become a firm favorite.

I love the formula of this product as I have been a long time fan of liquid lipsticks and so images (2)am always on the hunt for something that will stay put for a considerable amount of time without flaking off or going patchy. In terms of the consistency these products are kind of a mixture between a lipstick and gloss but at the same time they are not shiny drying down matte and are not uncomfortable or sticky. My favorite shades are Rose Matter which is a really pretty corally pink color which is perfect for summer, Leo which is again a very pretty dark nude and finally the limited edition Manny MUA Velour Liquid Lipstick in the shade I’m Shook which is a deep rose color. I also love the applicator for this product as the wands are fairly short and chunky, they have a largely sized doe foot applicator and pick up a good amount of product.

These aren’t the easiest to get hold of in the UK needing to either ship them from the US or I have ordered mine from Beauty Bay retailing at £16. Whilst this is more expensive than those available in the drugstore I think that you are more than pairing for the formula and the quality of the product. Overall if you are a fan of liquid lipsticks then these are something that you should check out and the shades are incredible.

As always I hope you found this interesting- the plan is that there will be a post every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from now on depending on how things go so keep your eyes peeled !!
